Description

Bennar is a two-storey house with a rough-cast and white-painted exterior, featuring a mix of Arts and Crafts and Beaux Arts styles. The roof is covered with light red tiles, and the chimney stacks are rough-cast and match the general masonry. The windows are small-pane mullioned throughout, with the ground floor and gables on the first floor also having transoms. The main entrance on the north side has an ashlar stone surround topped with a segmentally arched cornice supported by consoles, leading to semi-glazed double doors.

The house has a main range that runs north to south, with cross-wings at each end, facing west towards its front gardens and the road. The main range is slightly taller than the cross-wings, which have hip-ended roofs. The front elevation displays the gables of the cross-wings, with the right gable slightly projecting. Between the two gables, there is a semi-octagonal two-storey bay with generous eaves and its own semi-octagonal roof. The right cross-wing features a projecting single-storey square bay window with a small hipped lean-to roof. The left side has the main entrance at the rear and a deeply projecting flat-roofed semi-octagonal bay window towards the front, which helps balance the architectural composition. The rear of the house is irregular but uses similar materials. The right side (south) has three windows, with a central gable and advanced centre and right bays.

Inside, there is a large main room that spans the full width of the front, which was said to have been divided by a moveable screen. The room features bay windows with window seats, along with an entrance, corridor, and stairs leading to the rear.
