Description
Pierce's Memorial is a columnar monument approximately 15 meters high, featuring a tall Tuscan column made of finely-tooled ashlar. At the top, there is a life-sized statue of Dr. Pierce crafted from white Sicilian marble. The column includes a moulded abacus and an octagonal base. It is set on a square plinth that is 4 meters high, also with a moulded base and top. This plinth is elevated on a square stepped platform with six steps. The front face of the column base displays a large recessed bronze inscription plaque, while the other three sides feature similarly-sized bronze relief plaques. These reliefs depict Mercy Interceding with Justice on the left, Healing the Sick at the rear, and Feeding the Poor on the right. Each plaque is inscribed with 'M. Raggi Sc (sculpsit), London, 1885... H. Young and Co, Art Founders, London.'
