Description
Rhyd Farmhouse is a building consisting of three main sections, facing east towards a lawned area. It is primarily constructed of brickwork, likely originally stuccoed but now covered in rough-cast render, with slate roofs.
The central unit, designed in a two-storey Regency style, is the most prominent and projects forward. To the left is a lower two-storey unit, possibly the original farmhouse, while the right unit is three storeys high. The central unit features a hip roof at both the front and rear with wide eaves and has a central chimney, while the flanking units have chimneys at the ends. The main entrance is located at the angle to the left of the central unit, featuring a lean-to porch made of similar materials and a flight of stone steps leading up to a four-panel door with an overlight.
The central unit has two well-proportioned four-pane sash windows in concealed frames on each storey, along with two arched cellar lights. The left unit includes a mid-19th century tripartite window and a four-pane and a six-pane sash window above. The right unit has a twelve-pane sash window above and an altered window below, as well as doors and a glazed lean-to at ground level.
To the north, there is a single-storey additional unit made of stone, also rough-cast rendered and slated.
At the rear, the central unit again stands out, featuring two small windows above and a large window below, all with slightly cambered arches. Although the rear windows have been largely modernised, they remain within their original openings. There are several modern lean-to extensions.
While the building has been largely modernised, it still retains features such as wide boarded doors and an 18th-century fireplace. In the cellar, there are reused 17th-century beams.
