Description
The Star Shop, originally part of two units, is a three-storey, two-bay building designed in an L-shape. Its elevations are rendered, topped with a modern slate roof that is hipped to the right and features a dentilated wooden cornice along the facade. The building has two nearly identical shop fronts; the left one includes a recessed central entrance beneath a glazed, cambered overlight, flanked by plain-glazed shop windows that have small, square glazed panels at the top. The right shop front is similar but has a flush, plain-glazed window section in the center, with 'Star Shop' displayed in decorative glass in the cambered overlight above. Both shop fronts are accented with scrolled brackets on the sides and are flanked by simple pilasters adorned with geometric decoration, which extend into a plain frieze featuring relief star motifs. A moulded cornice runs along the length of the facade and wraps around the corner on the right.
On the first floor, there are large tripartite windows. The left window has a slightly advanced central section with narrower flanking sections, topped with a moulded and dentilated cornice and a segmental pediment over the central bay, featuring plain three-part vertical glazing. The right window mirrors this design but includes a curved central projecting bay in the form of an oriel, supported by an ogee corbelled base that extends down into the fascia, and topped with an ogee roof featuring decorative leadwork. This window also has similar glazing, with decorative leaded glass in the upper lights, including a prominent star motif at the center. The second floor features rectangular projecting oriels, each with four lights supported by curved brackets, and moulded cornices that return onto the sides. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
