Description
Wenffrwd is a two-story house dating to the 18th century, with alterations and additions. The exterior is rendered with roughcast, and has a slate roof, with a hipped eastern end to the main block, boarded eaves, and an unusual circular chimney stack with a decorative band. The south-facing elevation has a three-and-a-half window front, featuring two- and three-light Gothick casement windows, some with diamond-leaded glazing. A half-glazed door has oval panels and a bracketed hood; one doorway has been blocked and replaced with a window. A bay window is located in the angle where the main block meets a cross wing, incorporating two- and three-light horns sash windows, with more modern windows at the east end. The west end has two windows including a short cross range with three- and four-light Gothick casement windows. The rear elevation, facing the road, features similar windows to the center, and the gable ends of the cross ranges project outwards on either side, with a small-pane sash window to the west. First-floor windows have diamond-leaded glazing, and one contains stained glass. Lean-to additions are located below the main building; the one on the left has a rounded corner, and the one on the right contains a rear porch.
A rubble wall, containing a Gothick doorway, borders the line of the old road. A high snecked rubble embankment wall to the south, above the canal, screens the terrace and garden and curves back to the east end where the ground level rises.
The interior is characterized by Art Deco fittings, such as the dining room chimneypiece and a balustrade and newel post fitted onto a late Georgian staircase. Some alterations were in progress at the time of inspection in February 1989.
