Description
Pont Pengwern is a tall limestone road bridge featuring a short single span culvert at its base. It is constructed from hammer-faced limestone arranged in courses, with a slab dripcourse and parapet capping. The walls of the bridge curve outward on either side of the culvert, which is located at the base of a narrow river valley. The culvert itself has a single span arch made of roughly dressed stone voussoirs, complete with a stressed keystone and dripcourse. Tall tapering buttresses flank the arch, extending to the dripcourse at the base of the parapet, and these buttresses are mirrored by a sloping projecting bay at the extreme end of both sides. The arched roof of the culvert is lined with brick.
