Description

Nant Uchaf is a linear two-storey farmhouse with a single-storey addition on the left (west) end. The main part of the house has a door offset to the right (east) and features irregularly placed windows. It is constructed from rubble masonry that has been limewashed, with brick used to raise the east gable apex. The slate roof has tall rubble stacks, including one ridge stack offset to the right and one gable stack with dripstones at the west end.

The principal elevation faces southeast, and the oldest window is a narrow, small-paned light located to the left (west). The other windows include a mix of horizontally and vertically sliding sashes, as well as larger modern casements. The door and timber portico are modern replacements. On the right (east) gable return, there is an 8-pane sash window on the first floor, with the lintel level aligned with the first brick course in the gable apex. The ground floor features a modern casement window that was inserted in the 1980s. The rear elevation has three first-floor windows and two ground-floor windows, all offset to the west end, with a mix of sash and casement windows, including a modern casement on the left (east) that was also inserted in the 1980s.

The main part of the house consists of five bays, each originally defined by a full, jointed cruck. The three central crucks are complete and partially exposed, while the outermost crucks are encased within the outer stonework. Some original wattle and daub walling remains, and there is an internal partition made of reset timber. Most of the beams and joists are roughly hewn and chamfered, and there is a large cambered, chamfered bressumer above the fireplace in the sitting room, located at the center of the range.
