Description

Bryn Deunydd is an L-shaped farmhouse dating from the 18th century, situated behind a low rubble forecourt wall. The building is constructed of whitened rubble and features an old slate roof, with a rubble chimney on the left wing and a rebuilt brick chimney at the center of the main section. The main entrance is off-center and has an original pegged oak doorcase, which was previously sheltered by a late 19th-century canopy porch. To the left of the entrance is a fragmentary 19th-century sash window with a projecting stone sill. The first floor includes a late 19th-century shallow-gabled dormer with a tripartite window consisting of six-pane sections, although the central section has been replaced with modern plain glazing. The attic of the left wing has a similar dormer window, and the ground floor features a 16-pane 19th-century sliding sash window with a projecting sill. The northeast gable end has two 12-pane 19th-century windows, one on each floor.

The main section has a lobby-entry plan, with a wide fireplace in the former hall on the left and a plastered ceiling. To the right of the entrance is the former parlour, which has a stopped-chamfered plastered main beam with rolled stops and plain joists. A 1930s fireplace has a reduced opening, above which are the initials I:R and the date 1715 in large raised plaster letters and figures. To the right of the fireplace is a contemporary cupboard niche with a raised and fielded panelled door. An ex-situ six-panel raised and fielded door connects the former hall to the stairwell, featuring an original oak pegged doorcase. The staircase is a good contemporary dog-leg design with flat, shaped balusters, plain-capped square newels, and a moulded handrail. Further pegged doorcases lead to an upper room and a former wig closet to the left of the end chimney, although the door to the closet is missing.
