Description
The Former Carthouse at Berain is an L-shaped building dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features a main rectangular block that is two stories tall with a gabled roof, and a lower single-bay section at the northeast, creating the L-plan layout. The structure is built from local rubble and has a corrugated iron roof, with brick voussoirs above the cambered cart openings. There are three cart openings in total: two in the main block and one in the subsidiary section, which have modern steel half-doors. The upper floor of the main block includes two 2-light open wooden mullioned windows. Access to an upper entrance on the southeast gable is provided by external stone steps, leading to a boarded door set in a wooden frame. Additionally, there is a square kennel niche located beneath the stair.
