Description
Pont Rhyd-y-Cilgwyn is a long double-span road bridge constructed from local limestone rubble, featuring squared blocks in its lower courses. The bridge has segmental arches made of rough-dressed voussoirs, which are recessed in two tiers below the arch-rings composed of narrow stones. On both sides, there is a central triangular cutwater, with the upriver side incorporating a moulded sandstone plinth base that supports the stump of a sandstone shaft or column. The carriageway has a gentle hump and is flanked by low, uncoped rubble parapets that splay out at the approaches and extend in long stretches on either side.
