Description

Rhewl Chapel and Manse is a group of buildings constructed from limestone rubble with slate roofs. The chapel features a limestone ashlar facade, roughcast sides and rear, and a pyramidal roof topped with an iron weathervane. Its symmetrical facade includes a plain parapet and a projecting stringcourse below. There are four tall round-arched windows with early 20th-century 2-light leaded glazing, and similar glazing in the segmental heads, with projecting keystones and sills. The two central windows are positioned closer together than the outer ones, and between them is an inset dedication stone. At the center of the chapel's front is a 20th-century three-bay porch addition, with the central entrance bay advanced. The porch has a flat roof with a simple parapet section that features the painted inscription: '1844 Rhewl 1926.' The recessed entrance has 10-panel double doors and plain-glazed, round-arched windows on either side and at the returns. The rear of the chapel is widely canted with a hipped roof, and it has a three-light wooden mullioned window in the center with decorative leading, flanked by cross-windows that have 10-pane lower sections and 6-pane upper sections.

To the left of the chapel is the two-storey manse, which is roughcast and has a hipped roof. There is a blocked entrance on the left and modern windows on the right on both floors. The entrance is located at the left return, along with additional modern windows. At the rear, there is an L-shaped, two-storey contemporary school-room block. This block features a first-floor entrance with a modern door at the front, accessed by a straight external stair, and a ground-floor entrance to the right. It has plain sashes and modern windows on the side and rear, with a narrow lean-to at its gable end.

The interior was not inspected during the survey.
