Description

Pont Rhyd-y-Gwaed is a wide single-span road bridge built from squared limestone rubble. It features a segmental arch made of dressed voussoirs that extends up to a continuous, plain string course. This string course continues onto advanced and splayed-out sections at the bridge's approaches. The bridge has square, terminating piers and limestone copings on the parapets. On the inner face of the up-river parapet, there is an inscription stone that includes an incised Welsh poem and the date 1819.
