Description

This building at 3 Vaughan Street, including its verandah, is an example of Free Renaissance style architecture, likely dating to the late 19th century. It is three storeys and has an attic. The front elevation is primarily red brick with rendered dressings. A large, pedimented gable sits above the eaves, decorated with scrolls, pilasters, and a crowning finial. The attic storey features two sash windows, each topped with a shouldered architrave, pilasters, and pediments. The second and first floors each have two three-light, storeyed canted bay windows with parapets. The windows on the second floor have moulded architraves, while those on the first floor are flanked by pilasters. The ground floor contains two plate glass shop fronts. A two-bay cast-iron veranda, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, extends from the front; it continues the veranda of the adjacent building at number 2. The veranda features columns with capitals, cresting at the top, a single spandril, and a modern corrugated roof.
