Description

The Exchange is a late 18th century or early 19th century terrace of cottages, likely constructed for quarrymen, situated in the center of Llansannan village. The houses in this terrace feature various types of masonry construction and many still have their original window designs at both the front and back. All the cottages, except for the Surgery, have front gardens enclosed by low rubble walls topped with beveled capping and railings. These railings alternate between paired and joined sections with rounded heads and vertical rails that have fleur de lys finials. The gates consist of alternating tall and short vertical rails with fleur de lys finials, plain foot and lock stiles, and shaped wrought iron swirls above the top rail. The gateposts are square rubble piers topped with pyramidal caps. In front of the Surgery, there is a paved area with a railed enclosure for the First World War memorial. At the back of the terrace, the cottages have several unremarkable modern lean-to and flat-roofed additions.

One mid-terraced house is constructed of random rubble masonry with larger blocks, particularly at the far right end where it adjoins the adjacent cottage known as 'Crown House'. This house has two windows and a doorway offset to the right end, located below the first-floor window. The windows are 12-pane horizontally sliding sashes, with the first-floor windows positioned directly under the eaves.
