Description
The Old School House is a 19th-century building constructed of squared rubble with freestone dressings, which has been painted. It features a steeply-pitched slate roof with coped gables and kneelers. The central stone chimney has crenellations, and there is a similar chimney at the west gable. The entrance elevation faces the school and includes a tiny central round-headed attic window below the cornice, flanked by small semi-hexagonal oriel windows that align with the cornice and have tiny splayed stone roofs above. There is a central gabled porch with a Gothic doorway and door, along with small windows on the sides of the porch. On either side of the porch, there are two-light mullioned and transomed windows with shallow cornices. The elevation facing the road has a coped gable with kneelers, a two-light round-headed window on the first floor, and a three-light mullioned and transomed window with a shallow cornice on the ground floor. The rear gable end features a projecting stepped chimney. To the west, there is a single-storey lean-to and a modern attached garage. Additionally, there are brick entrances to former air-raid shelters in the basements.
