Description
The Infants' School is a building designed in the Free Northern Renaissance style, constructed from rubble with pale freestone dressings and slate roofs. It stands on a plinth with a string course below the windows. The entrance front faces roughly northwest and features two gables. The larger right gable has a tall window and a smaller window, both with shaped pediments, and a truncated red brick chimney at the apex. The lower left gable contains two windows. Between the gables is the infants' entrance porch, which has a freestone doorcase supported by squat columns on plinths. These columns hold up a Mannerist hyperbolic pediment that is flanked by finials, with a square window on the right return.
The right elevation features a large gable on the right side with three windows and a narrow door to the left, which has a tall architrave and an overlight. To the left of this gable is a smaller gable with a tall window, and to the right is a narrow door with an overlight and a narrow window. To the left of this gable, there is a smaller square-headed window. The left elevation has a large shaped gable on the left, while the block to the right contains two broad dormers under raking roofs. The rear elevation features a shaped gable on the right with two small pane windows in architraves with shaped pediments, and a smaller square-headed window to the left.
