Description

18 Chapel Street is a Georgian three-storey, three-bay house that originally included a shop. The front is cream-painted and pebble-dashed, featuring a smooth-rendered quoin strip on the right, a plinth, architraves, and sill bands on the first and second floors. The roof is slate, and the stacks have been removed. The openings are slightly offset to the left of center. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed fielded-panel door with an overlight, set within a surround that has an eared architrave. In the right-hand bay, there is a 19th-century shop front with a fixed window containing 12 panes and a panelled door with an overlight to its right, both framed by panelled pilasters and topped with a moulded deep cornice. The windows throughout have eared and lugged architraves and are hornless sashes. The lower storey features a 12-pane window in the left-hand bay, while the first floor has 12-pane windows and the second floor has 9-pane windows, with a blind central window.

The right gable end, facing Sea View Terrace, has a 12-pane shop window and panelled pilasters beneath a moulded cornice, similar to the front. Above this are 12-pane and 9-pane windows, also matching the front. A cast-iron street sign is located on the first-floor sill band. The left gable end is pebble-dashed, and the rear of the building includes a shallow outshut, a skylight on the right side, and a 9-pane sash window on the second floor. The property has not been inspected.
