Description
Eglwys y Santes Fair, or the Parish Church of St Mary, features a small porch with a steeply pitched gable, an arched wooden doorframe, and attractively carved bargeboarding. To the right, there is a small two-light window in the nave. At the west end, the nave has a single-light window, and above it, there is a belcot supported by corbelled triple arches. The west window of the aisle is a four-light design with reticulated tracery and a hoodmould with head stops, along with a small window in the apex of the gable.
In the angle between the nave and the north transept, there is an added aisle made of snecked dark stone. This section features three bays of two-light windows in a geometrical style dating from around 1300, along with stepped buttresses. The north transept has diagonal buttresses and a two-light window, with a small window in the gable. An organ chamber or vestry is located in the angle between the transept and chancel, featuring a door; it has two trefoil single-light windows facing east and a cruciform window in the gable apex. The chancel's east window consists of three lights with cinquefoil shapes and star-shaped tracery above, along with a hood mould that has head stops. There are single-light windows on the north and south sides. A chapel in the southeast angle between the chancel and transept has two-light windows facing east and south, as well as cruciform windows in the gable apexes. The transept includes diagonal buttresses and a two-light window with a small cruciform window in the gable apex.
The nave consists of three bays with an added north aisle. The arcade is supported by octagonal shafts. The aisle roof is of the common rafter type with collars. The roofs of the nave transepts and chancel are of the principal rafter type, featuring arch-braces that support king posts. The trusses are supported on plain stone corbels, except in the chancel where angels support instruments of Christ’s Passion. There is a traceried wooden war memorial chancel screen with painted decoration, and the screen and chancel arrangement were designed by H L North, an architect from Llanfairfechan, around 1925. To the right of the chancel is a chapel, and to the left is the organ chamber with a traceried screen.
