Description

T’yn Llan is a two-storey farmhouse dating from the 19th century. It is constructed of limewashed rubble with an undulating slate roof and end chimney stacks made of stone. Originally a three-window front, it features 19th-century sash windows, some slightly recessed, with nine panes and twelve panes of glass, and a boarded front door with an overlight, all held in timber lintels. The right-hand gable end is blank, showing the original, lower roofline. The rear elevation contains a casement window, a blocked staircase window, and a lower, projecting cross-range with a larger casement window overlooking the west, and boarded doors facing east. A blue-brick chimney stack punctuates the gable end of the cross-range.

To the left of the farmhouse, and stepped down, is a stable characterised by a square loft window, a slatted window with six panes, and an offset boarded door with a cambered voussoir head. Stepped down further to the east is a rubble-built byre, again with an undulating slate roof. The byre’s front has split-boarded barn doors centrally positioned, flanked by a cambered-arch doorway leading to a cowhouse on the left and a slit ventilator on the right. A later lean-to has been added to the far left end of the byre.

Behind the stepped ranges are two square-headed cowhouse doorways with slate lintels, accessible by outside steps; and a loft entrance to the stable.

Inside, the farmhouse has a plain 19th-century central staircase. The former parlour and hall retain simply-chamfered ceiling beams. A cellar lies beneath the parlour. The byre contains simple 19th-century timber trusses, and the stable retains three stalls with original wooden furnishings.
