Description

The arch at Maes-y-Bryner Isaf is an early 19th-century decorative folly built as an estate feature by Sir Robert Williames Vaughan of Nannau, Bart. It is designed in a rustic style and constructed from rubble. The arch is flanked by sections of wall that contain arched slits with projecting rubble cills and vernacular projecting voussoirs, topped with a plain string-course. Originally, the arch was capped to create a pedimented effect, and two large slate-stone lintel pieces that once served this purpose are located nearby.
