Description

Hen Siop is a building constructed of rubble stone, featuring a slate roof set between raised stone-coped gables with chimney stacks. It is one storey high with an attic and consists of three bays. The central entrance is a timber door, flanked by 19th-century four-pane sash windows in each bay. Above, the upper floor has timber cross casements that extend above the eaves, forming three gabled dormers. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition that houses the kitchen. The building extends to the east with a stable and outbuildings aligned with it, which also extends to the front under the continuation of the main roof. The stable has a boarded door. In front of the house, there is a curved stone wall with a central gate.

Inside, the front entrance leads into a hallway that spans the full width of the bay. To the left is the living kitchen, and to the right is a smaller parlour. The living room features a large gable-end fireplace with splayed reveals, a former small circular stair on the right, and an oven in the left cheek of the fireplace. The original stair has been replaced with an early 20th-century stair located in the central bay, which still retains the original rear door leading into the lean-to kitchen. The interior also showcases cross beams at the bay divisions and chamfered ceiling joists with cut stops.
