Description
The Dovecote at Ynysmaengwyn is a Grade II listed structure built of local stone. The main front, which faces east, features well-coursed squared and tooled stone. It has a central arched opening with graded voussoirs, although this opening has been reduced to a single door. The roof is an irregular slate hipped design that has been recently renewed, and it includes a coved eaves course without gutters, rising to a central louvred glover topped with its own slated hipped roof.
Inside, the dovecote is lined with brick nest boxes, with each tier separated by a slate flight ledge. There are 20 boxes high on three walls and 12 boxes high on the entrance wall, totaling 864 nest boxes. The roof structure has been reconstructed in recent times and does not include a central potence.
