Description
The Dovecote at Gunley Hall is a Grade II listed structure built of brick and designed in an octagonal shape. It features pilaster buttresses that emphasize the corners and extend to the full height of the building. The roof is pyramidal and hipped, covered with slate, and has boarded eaves. The entrance is a boarded door located on the northeast side, which faces the stables.
Inside, the dovecote is circular and contains 17 tiers of nest boxes situated above a low plinth. Each tier has 40 boxes, each with a slightly projecting brick flight ledge, resulting in a total of approximately 660 nests. At the center, there is a stone-built drum that is about 80 centimeters high, which supports the potence. This potence is held up by a bearing in cross trees that is level with the top of the wall. The glover has since disappeared.
