Description
The former farmhouse at Cefn-Creuan-Uchaf is a one-and-a-half storey building constructed of rubble with part boulder foundations, situated on a north-south orientation against the slope of the hill. It features an old slate roof, topped with a squat end chimney that has plain capping and weathercoursing. The main entrance side faces a nearby early 20th-century house. There is an off-centre entrance to the house section, with a 2-pane window to the right. The upper floor has two small rubble gabled dormers, each with small 4-pane casements.
On the rear elevation, which faces the farmyard, there is an opposing entrance with a boarded door and a small 2-pane light to the left. The roof includes narrow 2-pane catslide dormers. The byre section appears to be contemporary with the house and has a continuously-roofed design; however, there are some repairs made with corrugated iron and plastic on the rear pitch. A central stable entrance on the farmyard side is flanked by small part-glazed windows.
The presence of opposing entrances indicates a former cross-passage plan, which has been altered and now features 19th-century boarded partition screens. Inside, there is a fireplace and bressummer in the former hall to the left, with stopped-chamfered ceiling beams and plain, later joists. The first floor has post-and-panel screens. The byre section consists of three bays and is cruck-built. It is possible that an earlier building has been incorporated into the current structure, although this could not be confirmed during the inspection in February 1995.
