Description
Blaen Glasgwm Uchaf is a lofted single-storey house built from limewashed rubble on boulder foundations, dating from the 18th century. It features a large rendered chimney stack and a modern slate roof. The entrance doorway, which was inserted in the 19th century, is located below the chimney and is accompanied by a casement window to the right, which was formerly a doorway. There are two windows set at the eaves and a lower window to the left of the door, with a smaller door beyond this window. A single window is present at the rear of the house. The eastern end of the house was extended in line during the 19th century, featuring a broad doorway with a slightly cambered voussoir opening. At the rear of this extension, there is an iron drive wheel for agricultural machinery over a leat.
Inside, a tiny lobby is formed by a large central fireplace, with two ground floor rooms on either side. Each room has a wooden stair, and the main room contains an inglenook fireplace beneath a large cambered beam. A doorway to the left of the fireplace was likely cut through in the 19th century. Each room features a cruck couple that springs approximately 1 meter from the floor, with added tie-beams to support the floors of the lofts, which are lit by skylights.
