Description
Cae Hir Farmhouse, which includes an attached byre, is a building constructed of rubble on a boulder plinth, positioned longitudinally against the slope of the hill. It features slate roofs that are partly old and undressed, with some sections renewed. The gable parapets are made of rubble, and there are 19th-century squat chimneys with weather-coursing and capping.
The entrance is off-centre and has a 19th-century boarded door with a modern window to the left. A large stone lintel spans both the door and window, indicating a former twin byre entrance with a shared lintel. There is another window to the right, which is a 4-pane 19th-century sash. Above, three similar windows are set within 19th-century gabled dormers that have plain bargeboards. The section that was once the parlour, now a byre, includes a large cart entrance with boarded doors and a blocked slit window to the right. The rear pitch of the cart house roof is covered with corrugated iron.
At the rear, there is a gabled projecting wing with stepped access to a boarded upper loading bay and an entrance to the right return. A further gabled dormer has modern glazing, along with additional modern windows and a modern lean-to extension to the right.
Inside, there are large opposing fireplaces in the hall and former parlour, both featuring chamfered inglebeams. The ceiling in the hall is partly uncovered and has chamfered details, while a chamfered main beam remains in the lower room. The parlour section, which originally had a floor above, has pegged collar and tie-beam trusses. To the left of the cart entrance, there is an inscribed stone with the name "SYLVANUS" in early lettering.
