Description
Elusendy, Yspytty Road, Penmachno.
Former almshouses built c1740 financed by R Anwyl and L Lloyd of Hafod-dwyryd, Penmachno. Originally 10, later 5 dwellings; converted to two houses c1960.
Two-storied building with U-shaped plan. Local rubble on plinth with (modern) slate roofs. Former principal entrance front faces W with former doorway set between arms of U-shaped plan; doorway has segmental head with thin voussoirs; above doorway wall runs up as small gable with window (modern glazing). Inner walls of U have, on R, square-headed doorway, and to L, window (formerly doorway). Steeply pitched gabled ends to returns of 'U' each has stone chimney (that to L truncated) and four small windows (two to each storey). Outer elevations each have square-headed doorway and small window lighting stairs, and two modern broad casement windows on ground floor with two similar windows above in flat-roofed dormers. At rear (E), three-gabled elevation with tall chimney at each apex. Outer gables blank; smaller inner gable has two small square windows on first floor, and two modern 2-light casement windows on ground floor.
Interior converted to two houses in mid C20. N house of pair has C19 stairs and C18 partitions on landing. Stop-chamfered main beams on ground floor. Fireplaces in living room and kitchen have heavy stone lintels.
