Description

Gwydir Cottage is a single-storey, two-window cottage built in what appears to be the 18th century. It is constructed of rough-dressed slate-stone blocks with sandstone dressings. The roof is slate, with deep verges and eaves; the eaves have distinctive shaped corbelling set diagonally at the corners, and the verges are constructed of large slate slabs. A round, projecting end chimney is located on the south gable, consisting of two stages with a cylindrical stack and a plain cornice.

The near-centre entrance has a slightly-recessed boarded and studded door, flanked by mullioned windows: three lights to the left and two to the right. The mullions and reveals of the windows and the entrance are chamfered, and feature simple returned labels. Each window light has sash windows with leaded upper panes. A squat, square chimney with a simple two-stage capping is present at the rear, to the left. The interior was not inspected during the survey in February 1996.
