Description
Ffynnon Gowper is a fountain featuring a central stepped plinth situated within a slightly raised semicircular terrace that has low retaining walls. The plinth is plain and consists of three tiers made from large limestone ashlar blocks. At the front base, there are central and outer square blocks that create a division for two fountain jets, which are discharged through two plain iron settings in the center of the plinth; however, these jets are currently not operational as of 1996.
The wide, low retaining walls flanking the fountain curve outwards to enclose the terrace to the west. These walls are constructed from large slate-stone ashlar blocks and have slightly overhanging coping stones. The walls end at the sides with square, squat piers topped with large overhanging capping blocks that have deeply chamfered upper faces. Access to the terrace is provided by two steps made of huge slatestone blocks, and the terrace features a simple decorative pavement made of conjoined octagonal slatestone sets. Additionally, there are two openings leading into a drainage channel beneath the twin waterspouts.
