Description
Neuadd Idris, formerly known as the Market Hall, is a two-storey building featuring four windows. It is constructed from snecked rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched slate roof that is hipped towards Eldon Square. The building has deep boarded eaves supported by consoles, along with an eaves band. A vent gablet is set into the roof at the front.
The first floor is adorned with 16-pane fixed light windows, while the ground floor showcases a four-arch arcade with rock-faced freestone rusticated architraves and cambered arches. The voussoirs form the freestone arch rings, and there are impost and plinth bands. The arch on the extreme right is broader and has later inner doors that provide access to the stairs. A similar six-window and six-arch elevation is present on Finsbury Square, with the tympanum of the arch on the extreme left being blocked. Iron railings connect the arches of the arcade, and there is a gabled elevation at the rear, featuring a small stone stack and bargeboards. The windows have modern glazing, but the plain rock-faced freestone architraves remain.
The interior of the market hall has been converted into individual shop units.
