Description

The Midland Bank is a two-storey building constructed with snecked masonry and freestone dressings, featuring a steep slate roof that is hipped at the corner. The eaves have a low parapet above a plain cornice.

The entrance bay is canted and made of ashlar, topped with an open pediment supported by broad sunk panelled pilasters on the first floor. It has an inset 12-pane horned sash window, with a cornice above a moulded architrave that includes a keystone and sill brackets. The Eldon Square elevation has four similar windows without cornices, set between snecked pilasters, while the elevation facing Mill Street has three windows.

Above the ground floor, there is a continuous modillion cornice with a plain entablature. The entrance features a round-arched hood on plain pilasters, with a plain fanlight above double six-panel doors. The building has channelled quoins, and there are four tall round-arched windows set between snecked pilasters on the Eldon Square side, each with moulded hoods, keystones, and a sill band. These windows also have marginal glazing bars over opaque rectangular panels. There are two similar windows on the Mill Street side, and the doorway is located at the extreme left. Above the moulded doorcase with a cornice, there is an oculus, and the entrance features a panelled door.
