Description

Central Buildings, formerly known as Meyrick House, is a four-storey building with a cellar, featuring classical details. The front is constructed of snecked rubble with freestone dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof with deep boarded eaves supported by modillions. The building has stone stacks on bases with moulded caps.

On the third floor, there are four round-arched windows with stressed keystones, rusticated architraves, and a sill band, all fitted with Victorian sashes. The second floor has two tripartite windows with triangular pediments, plain pilasters, and plain sashes, along with a sill band. The first floor also features two tripartite windows with round arches, stressed keystones, plain pilasters, and plain sashes, all set on stone sills. The ground floor has a modern shopfront.

The south side of the building has two tiers of Victorian sash windows with stone lintels. A gablet with a loading door is located over the tier to the left, while the tier to the right is canted back at the corner.

At the rear, there is a four-storey outshut with a loading door to the second floor on the south side. This area includes a stone platform with iron railings and a ladder equipped with security hoops. Small sash windows are present on the third and first floors, along with a doorway on the ground floor, all featuring stone lintels. The rear elevation of the outshut has two tiers of Victorian sashes, and there is a tier of larger Victorian sashes on the rear of the main building to the right, positioned over a lean-to closed porch with a modern door and a slate roof.
