Description
The lofted stable and cartshed at Plas Llandecwyn is a linear agricultural building dating from the 19th century, aligned northeast to southwest. It consists of lofted stables on the northeast side, which have an outshut at the rear, and a cartshed at a lower level on the southwest side. The structure is built of coursed rubble masonry, featuring large stones used in the construction as well as for the quoins and lintels. The roof is covered with slate, and the stable wing includes rooflights.
The main range faces the house to the southeast. The stables have a central doorway flanked by two small, four-pane horned sash windows, and above is an unequal horned sash window with nine panes. There is a boarded doorway in the northeast gable leading to the loft, which is accessed by an external flight of stone steps, as well as another doorway to the outshut at the rear. The opposite gable of the stable block features a circular pitching hole in the apex, which is now glazed.
The cartshed includes three doorways along its length; on the left side, there are two wide doorways or cartshed bays that now house double doors, while on the right side, there is a single doorway. Inside the stables, the original timber partitions that divide the stalls are still intact.
