Description
Pen Brynbella is a 1½ storey cottage with a later extension to the left rear, constructed from rubble masonry. It features steeply pitched slate roofs with close verges and plain eaves. The late 19th-century rubble stacks have brick quoins and slate water tabling. The cottage has two gabled dormers in the loft, with rubble cheeks and bargeboards. The windows are two-light casements with pointed heads, and there is a small modern raking dormer in the center, set entirely within the roof. The doorway is off-center to the right and has upper panels that are glazed. To the right of the door is a six-pane fixed light window, and to the left is a Victorian sash window, all with stone lintels.
The right gable end is angled back to follow the line of the road and has three small iron skylights on the roof at the rear. There is a Victorian sash window under a fixed toplight to the left and a four-pane fixed light window to the right, both with stone lintels.
At the rear, there is a late 18th-century workshop range, also built of rubble, with a moderately pitched slate roof and close verges. It has a squat, projecting end stack with slated offsets and a roofed projection at the front. The former broad opening has a timber lintel and is fitted with a late 19th-century four-panelled door (with upper panels glazed) and a modern window. This building may have originally served as a smithy.
