Description
The gateway, forecourt, and screen walls at Coleg Harlech are constructed of slatestone, with the main sections faced in coursed, quarry-faced blocks. The gateway, which faces the college complex to the south, features a round-arched entrance with prominent, rusticated voussoirs. It includes finely crafted decorative wrought-iron gates and a wrought-iron balustrade above the arch on both sides. The front face has a corbel course and two large projecting copper lanterns with decorative iron brackets. A short section of wall extends to the left, with a balustraded stair on its outer side leading to an iron-balustraded wall walk that sits atop the screen wall.
The outer wall curves irregularly northwards from the gateway, following the road until it ends at a modern pedestrian bridge near Theatre Harlech, providing high-level access to the car park across the road. This wall varies in height, reaching a maximum of 4 meters. On the college side, it connects to a series of arcaded forecourt walls that enclose a large area, part-flagged and part-cobbled, in front of the former Plas Wernfawr. The walls meet the building at the northwest corner.
