Description

The Plas is a three-storey former inn dating from the late Georgian period. It is constructed of local rubble, with a whitewashed facade, and has a hipped slate roof with tiled ridges and ashlar end chimneys featuring plain bands and capping. The front facade is asymmetrical, with a three-bay arrangement where the right-hand bay is set further back than the other two. A centrally positioned entrance has a recessed 20th-century multi-pane glazed door, protected by a semi-circular leaded wooden porch canopy. Contemporary semi-circular bow windows with flat leaded roofs and multi-pane glazing flank the ground floor entrance. Original sash windows with 16 panes on the first floor and 12 panes on the second floor remain, recessed within the facade and featuring projecting slate sills. A 20th-century sign is positioned centrally on the first floor, held by a scrolled iron bracket.

The rear facade overlooks a terraced area. A continuous, later 19th-century glazed verandah extends along the ground floor, incorporating sash windows and a central entrance with small-pane French doors and marginal glazing. The upper floors feature sash windows matching those on the front, alongside 20th-century slatted wooden external shutters. Further original sashes are present on the southwest side elevation.

Inside, there is a full-width room to the rear which opens onto the verandah. Simple 19th-century plaster cornicing remains, along with panelled window and entrance reveals and moulded architraves. The staircase, previously located on the left-hand side at the end of the entrance hall, has been removed.
