Description

The Telford Milestone is made of dressed Anglesey limestone and dates from the early 19th century. It features a shallow triangular head with raking chamfered sides. There is a cast iron inset plate with white lettering on a black background that reads: HOLY- / HEAD / 41 / C. CURIG / 1M - 5F / CERNIOGE / 12M – 6F. The milestone is set in front of a rubble arch that is part of a boundary wall, which is an example of a “Telford Arch.” This arch is believed to have been designed to enhance and draw attention to the milestone.
