Description
Fron is a pair of single-storey estate cottages located in Abergwyngregyn, designed in a simple 'vernacular revival' style. The cottages are symmetrically arranged, featuring a gabled wing that projects from the center of a long range. The exterior is made of roughly coursed rubblestone with buttered pointing on the sides and rear, and snecked rubblestone with large slate-stone lintels on the front. The cottages have a slate roof with overhanging verges and carved purlin ends on the long range, as well as an ornamental arch-braced collar truss in the center gable.
The front facade is symmetrical with a layout of 1:2:1 bays, where the gable includes 2-light windows and the long range has 3-light windows. The entrances to the long range are positioned at an angle with the center gable. There are prominent brownish brick integral end stacks with paired diagonal shafts on the long range and clustered diagonal shafts on the ridge of the gabled wing, all featuring chamfered stone bases and stepped capping.
Fron has 20th-century replacement windows, a half-glazed door set within a flat-roofed entrance porch, and a 20th-century flat-roofed garage attached to the left gable end. There is also a flat-roofed extension at the rear. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
