Description
Tyn-y-buarth is a pair of single-storey estate cottages located in Abergwyngregyn, designed in a simple vernacular revival style. The cottages are symmetrically arranged, featuring a gabled wing that projects from the center of a long range. The exterior is made of roughly coursed rubblestone with buttered pointing on the sides and rear, while the front showcases snecked rubblestone with large slate-stone lintels. The cottages have a slate roof with overhanging verges and carved purlin ends on the long range, as well as an ornamental arch-braced collar truss in the center gable.
The symmetrical front consists of a layout of 1:2:1 bays, with the gable featuring 2-light windows and the long range having 3-light windows. The entrances to the long range are positioned at an angle with the center gable. Notable architectural details include prominent brownish brick integral end stacks with paired diagonal shafts on the long range and clustered diagonal shafts on the ridge of the gabled wing, all supported by chamfered stone bases and topped with stepped capping.
Tyn-y-buarth features a boarded door beneath the original lean-to hood, and there is a modern flat-roofed extension at the rear. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
