Description
Bryn Hyfryd and Bro Dawel are a pair of single-storey estate cottages located in Abergwyngregyn, designed in a simple 'vernacular revival' style. The cottages are symmetrically arranged, with gabled wings on either side of a central range. They are constructed from snecked rubblestone and feature large slate-stone lintels. The slate roof has deep overhanging verges and decorative king-post trusses at the gables.
The front of Bryn Hyfryd is symmetrical, consisting of 1:2:1 bays. The gables have 3-light windows, while the central range has 2-light windows, with 18 and 12 panes respectively. The entrances are located on the outer returns. The cottages have prominent brownish brick ridge stacks, with paired diagonal shafts on the gabled wings and four diagonal shafts on the central range, all featuring rendered bases and stepped capping.
Bryn Hyfryd has replacement 20th-century metal windows without glazing bars on the front and a boarded door beneath a bracketed lean-to hood on the outer return. There is also a modern flat-roofed extension at the rear. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
