Description

Caerhun Methodist Chapel is a large chapel built with its facade facing east towards Glasinfryn road, away from the village. The building is rendered and topped with a slate roof. The eastern front is symmetrical, featuring a central tripartite 20-pane sash window with a rendered architrave and a triangular pediment supported by scrolled consoles. There is a narrow tall window on each side of the central window. On the outer sides, there are round-headed doors set forward within a classical corniced arch, each door is panelled and has an overlight above. Above each door, there is a glazed oculus and a similar blind roundel in the gable's tympanum.

The side elevations consist of four bays, each with similar 12-pane sash windows set within shouldered architraved frames. At the northwest end, there is a narrower and lower section that serves as a lobby and schoolroom, featuring a window facing the main street with a segmental pediment on brackets decorated with acanthus leaves. The building also has two metal roof ventilators.

Inside, the entrance doors lead to triangular lobbies, which create a five-sided end opposite the pulpit located at the southwest end. Partly glazed panelled doors open into the main body of the chapel, which has a slight rake at the rear and contains 59 pews. The ceiling is coved and panelled, with a central perforated ventilator. The walls are plastered above a high boarded dado and feature a painted architrave. The pulpit is accessible by steps with turned newels leading to a handrail and is positioned in front of an architraved round-headed recess. Behind the pulpit, there is a panelled pine reredos with a shaped top, and the set fawr is enclosed.
