Description

This is a terrace of seven houses located at right angles to the road in Glasinfryn. The buildings date to 1836, as indicated by a slate datestone in the gable, and their presence is confirmed on the Bangor Tithe Map of 1840. The Ordnance Survey Map of 1889 shows only the top house as a separate dwelling, suggesting the terrace initially comprised back-to-back cottages. These rows of workers’ housing were unusual for such a small rural settlement, potentially linked to the presence of a textile factory in 1840.

The terrace is distinctive in its design; the top house faces the road as a wide, two-unit, gable-entry building, while the other six houses are stepped down behind it, each a single unit with a double-depth plan. Construction is of rubble, rendered to the front and upper gable elevations, with the rear walls left exposed. The roofs are slate-covered, and there are brick stacks. The top house has a doorway to the right of the gable and paired six-pane sash windows on each floor. A slate datestone is positioned near the gable apex, and a stack runs parallel to the ridge. The subsequent houses each have a doorway to the left and a single window on each floor, predominantly 4-pane sashes; some original 12-pane sashes remain in the rear elevations, alongside some replacement windows. Brick stacks are situated at right angles to the ridge line on the gable ends. The terrace forms a group of seven.
