Description

Elusendai Price is a symmetrical range of six almshouses built from rubble stone, topped with slate roofs and featuring tall stone stacks. The structure has a gabled central block and a cobbled pathway leading to an arched through passage, which provides access to Bryncastell on the left and Berth-lwyd on the right. The side wings are recessed, each with two windows and an end door against the projecting end wings. The left wing contains two dwellings, Daron and Ty Newydd, while the right wing includes Hen Ysgoldy, which incorporates the former Red Lion. Each house has a boarded door with a small glazed light and a plain overlight, along with 12-paned sash windows. The recessed sections feature two gabled raised dormers. The right wing has two full floors, resulting in a higher eaves, and is finished with old grouted slates and clayware copings, while the front gable is rendered. The central arch has a boarded tympanum, likely a later alteration intended to extend the upper floor accommodation at the same level. Additionally, the right wing has been extended to the rear. Above the central arch, there is a slate tablet inscribed in Latin, which was apparently placed there in 1760. According to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, the only original roof remains over the east wing.
