Description
Ty-Hir is a two-storey stone building with pebble-dashed walls and smooth-rendered dressings, topped with a partially grouted slate roof that features rooflights. The main block consists of four window bays and is extended to the southeast by a lower two-window service range, which may be of slightly later construction. A significant wing on the north side of the main range likely dates from the same period and contains the stair, which has been extended by a lean-to on the west side. A second rear wing of this extension houses the kitchen.
The entrance is now accessed through an added lean-to porch on the east range, featuring a boarded door. The main front door, located centrally in the main range, is set within a 19th-century gabled glazed porch. The building has four-pane sash windows.
Inside, the main front entrance opens into a reception hall at the east end, leading to the stair in the rear wing. The hall features a tiled floor, a heavy cross beam, and a post and panel partition, with openings into a reception room on the right that includes a large stack, although the fireplace is largely blocked. A rear passage leads to the later extension. The west wall of the entrance hall showcases some fine 18th or early 19th-century cupboards, with canted sides leading to a central door that opens into an inner parlour against the road gable end. The dog-leg stair, dating from around 1700, features moulded square newels, a string, stick balusters, and simple brackets supporting the treads. The extension has a steep stair, two living rooms, and a kitchen in the rear wing. The primary building boasts a six-bay roof with A-frame trusses supporting a single tier of purlins, with the apex pegged. The extension has a three-bay roof with lower pegged collar trusses and two tiers of purlins.
