Description
The former Railway Carriage Shed is an extremely long, gable-ended rectangular structure, approximately 130 meters in length. It is built of roughly coursed rubblestone with buttered pointing on the long sides and squared slabs on the gable ends, topped with a slate roof. The north long side features five widely spaced tall rectangular louvred openings with slate cills, with three of these located centrally above doorways that have pale brick dressings. The east gable end includes an iron track for former tall sliding doors, with the date "1896" inscribed on a slate slab above. The current recessed steel doors in the railway carriage entrance date from the 20th century, and there is a pedestrian door in the west gable end.
The interior was originally completely open, with plastered walls and a multi-trussed iron king-post roof supported by raking struts, timber single purlins, and timber rafters. There is some concrete block partitioning at each end, which was added for housing animals.
