Description

Ty Groes is a two-storey, three-window house with a rear wing forming an L-shaped plan. It was built with a render over rubble and brick, and has a slate roof, along with plain rendered end chimneys topped with simple capping. The front facade features rusticated quoining and retains its original 16-pane sash windows; three are on the upper floor and two on the ground floor. The ground floor windows flank an off-centre entrance with an unusual double-gabled porch. This porch is timber-framed and decorated with punched detailing below simple bargeboards, which have finials. Below the L-shaped gable is panelling, with a narrow central panelled section set between the gables. The right-hand side of the porch is open and leads to a Victorian four-panel front door within the porch. Above the porch is a decorative slate plaque inscribed ‘1863: Glan Aber.’

The southwest side elevation features a gabled porch canopy over an entrance to the rear wing. It has 19th-century eight-pane sashes to both floors on the right-hand side, and a plain-glazed, four-pane 19th-century sash window to the left. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
