Description
Efail Gledrydd Forge is a blacksmith's forge constructed from granite rubble stone, with brick and corrugated iron roofs, featuring diagonally-set short brick end stacks on the main part. This single-storey building has a lower addition on the left and an outshut at the rear. The southwest front includes large double doors that are ledged and braced, equipped with iron strap and pintle hinges. The right door is of the stable type, featuring a hinged section. There are brick pillars on each side of the door, a narrow window to the left, and a 2-light casement window above a shutter. To the right, there is a window with an 8-pane light above a shutter, and a small stone outshut. The left end addition is lower and has a large window that is blocked with corrugated sheet to the right. The rear outshut features a large stable door on the left, a 4-pane casement window to the left, and a central window in the rear wall with five slim upper lights and a shutter below.
The roof is three bays, supported by two adzed oak collar trusses with pegged half-lap joints and blades crossed at the ridge. Inside, there are three cross-beams made of non-dressed timber. The right side contains a stone-built forge and chimney with a bressumer above. A large manual barrel bellows is located on the left side of the forge, alongside a wall recess and an anvil. There is a stone plinth under the window to the right, which serves as a workbench. Large adzed beams are positioned over the window and the small outshut beyond. The left end features a small fireplace with a raised stone hearth, and a belt-operated drill is located on the left. There is an opening to the right leading to a northwest addition and a former stationary engine room with a line shaft connected to the forge. A wall light recess is situated to the right of the hearth, and the rear wall has a wide opening leading to a shoeing room in the outshut, which includes a window on the left with 6 panes and wooden shutters below.
