Description
The Field Barn at Llanfair Farm is a 17th century structure built from shaped coursed rubble stone at the front and rough rubble elsewhere. It features a slate roof with rough stone coping on the gables. The barn measures approximately 13.7 meters by 6.8 meters and is aligned from northeast to southwest. The southeast wall is believed to be thinner than the others and dates from the 18th century. This wall has a central cambered-arched door with stone voussoirs, which is now blocked, and two ventilating slits on either side. The other walls are thicker, with the northwest side featuring a lower central door and two rows of ventilation slits. The southwest end of the barn is blank, while the northeast end has a high inserted 14th century window in the gable. This window is a single wide light with a pointed head and blank tracery of the ogee flowing type, which is also found in Anglesey and on the font in Llanfair Isgaer church.
The roof, which has not been inspected, is said to consist of four bays. It features two central trusses of 17th century type with mortices for removed collars, and the outer trusses have applied collars that are probably from the 18th century.
