Description

The lychgate to the churchyard of the Church of St Beuno is built of granite and features a pitched slate roof. It has a double gate entry from the road that leads to a wide interior paved with pebbles and slate, which slopes down to a broad opening into the churchyard. Both openings are covered by a large, irregularly shaped single slab of stone supported by further corbel slabs. The inner opening includes a square opening set asymmetrically above the lintel to allow more light. The entry facing the road appears to have originally been arched.

The roof is supported by re-used oak purlins and a ridge, with open rafters and plaster between each. Inside the passage, there are shallow recessed seats on either side immediately behind the outer gates, likely intended for mendicant pilgrims.
