Description
This row of three cottages is located in Capel Uchaf. They were built in the 18th century, constructed from stone rubble on boulder foundations. The walls are colourwashed, originally red but now white, and the cottages are covered by a continuous slate roof, which is grouted at the upper end. Each cottage originally featured an individual stack at its upper end, topped with a square conical design; the lower cottage also has a stack at its lower gable end. Some corrugated iron sheeting is present at the rear.
The cottages have centrally placed, boarded doors set within recessed frames. The windows are small, with 4 panes on the right-hand cottage, 6 panes in the centre, and 16 panes on the left.
Internally, the upper living room of the two-bay cottages is open to the roof and has a large stack and fireplace, with a timber fire lintel. A cross partition separates this room from a floored inner room. Some internal partitioning may have been removed, but one of the cottages retains an internal draught lobby. The roof structure features collar beam trusses, with the soffit plastered between the rafters.
